Our organisation, The National Fox Welfare Society, has received copies of letters in the Wandsworth Borough News which we have read with concern.
Annabel Richings wrote that she has problems with foxes every year. Her complaint appears to be only the noise of foxes, as the rest of her letter bemoans her neighbour's garden has gone to rack and ruin'.
Another respondent has more facts to hand. But our society has carried out numerous post-mortems on cats allegedly killed by foxes, and each has been proven otherwise.
While we would never say never, our proof thus far indicates no cat has ever been killed by a fox. Studies show cats and foxes have a healthy regard for one another and avoid physical confrontation.
Our organisation recognises foxes do cause problems in the form of fouling or digging and provides advice on how to prevent this.
If readers were as quick to gather factual evidence as they are to judge on their own very limited and obviously prejudiced views, foxes would receive the accolade they deserve, not persecution.
