A dog who was left cooped up in a garden shed for three years has been short-listed to receive an award from a national charity.
Tina Caird, of Tooting, rescued her Leonberger dog, Max, from the life of cruelty and now the lovable hound takes part in parades at dogshows, visits children's hospital wards and has helped several phobic patients.
He has been selected by charity PRO Dogs, founded 25 years ago: "To defend the rights of dogs and responsible owners", and receive an award at their annual luncheon in Surrey on Sunday, December 2.
The national charity compiles annual lists of dogs which have undertaken exceptional feats of devotion, bravery and service.
Medals are awarded to the dogs in categories including Devotion to Duty and Lifesaving.
