The fate of a street of Carshalton residents who fear their children may face serious health risks if BT Cellnet is allowed to erect a mobile mast, will be decided this week.
Friday saw Sutton Council step into the ring with the mobile phone giant. BT Cellnet wants to raise a 10-metre antenna and base station on the corner of Beeches Avenue and Stanley Park Road in Carshalton Beeches.
However, mother of three Anette Johansson Singarajah, is terrified her sons aged three, nine and 11 could be exposed to radiation if permission is won to erect it. "I feel we do not know enough about the risks."
The thrust of the council's argument will centre on the impact on the street scene.
BT Cellnet, however, appears confident of victory. "Our success rate on appeals is very high," said Community Relations Manager James Stephenson.
