Two Sutton police officers acted beyond the call of duty when they found themselves confronting a gunman.
PC Paul Banks and PC Lee Honey both 32, were called to a disturbance at Goliath Close, Wallington, earlier this month. As the officers made their way to the front door, Lance Jelley, who has since been convicted, came out of the door holding what appeared to be a hunting rifle.
PC Honey said: "While PC Banks distracted him, I was able to rush across and knock him to the ground.
Mr Jelley was quickly handcuffed and taken to Sutton Police station and two air rifles and one air pistol were recovered from the flat.
Mr Jelley was convicted at Sutton Magistrates Court on November 7 and given a six month conditional discharge and £25 costs.
