The big carp have been fairly quiet lately, writes Ray Robson.
But they are back with a bang this week as I have had reports of two 30-plusses paying a visit to landing nets this week.
Surbiton angler Seb Pereda, 34, had only recently joined a syndicate on a Woking lake but it didn't take him long to bank the lake biggest resident when his Tails Up protevit liver boilie gave him a new personal best with a mighty mirror that pulled the scales around to a fabulous 39lb 8oz.
The boss of Tails Up products, Jim Ratcliffe, also used his own bait, and in the same flavour, to land a huge 33lbs 8oz mirror from a lake near his Hampton home.
The big carp was part of a superb catch during an overnight session that included two more low 20 mirrors and a 23lb common.
Jim fished his boilie in a PVA bag with around 200 freebies cast 30 yards to the back of a weedbed.
An angler to get a real shock this week was 32-year-old Isleworth surveyor Ian Wilkins.
Fishing a session at Willinghurst near Shamley Green, Ian was targeting the resident carp with a method feeder when he got a take as he was reeling in. The culprit turned out to be a fantastic 3lbs 12oz perch.
