Boreham Wood 1 Kingstonian 3
A delighted Steve Sedgley enjoyed his first away Ryman League victory as Kingstonian manager on Saturday, writes Phil Windeatt.
Ks showed great style and finesse to beat ninth-placed Boreham Wood, as young striker Ronnie Green in for the injured Dave Sadler converted two well-taken goals after Greg Ball had shown a cool head to fire Ks in front.
Kingstonian goalkeeper Lance Key enjoyed his quietest afternoon of the season and the visitors were on top in the opening exchanges.
A curling high cross from Danny Bolt from the left saw keeper Scott Ward tip the ball away from a lurking Green while an unmarked Bolt headed Billy Meads 19th minute cross over the bar.
After 31 minutes Ks went ahead. Green picked up a loose ball on the right and Dave Clarke pursued his ball into the penalty.
Ward, under pressure, could only block and the ball rebounded for Ball to coolly slot into an empty net from the edge of the box.
Two minutes later it was 2-0. A long ball from skipper Peter Barnsby found Green down the left. He darted into the home box, leaving the Wood defence stranded, before rounding Ward and nochalantly tapping the ball home.
Four minutes later it could have been three when Bolts curling high cross from the left found Ball in the box but defender Danny Mehmet made a great saving tackle.
Wood manager Tommy Sampson must have said the right things at the break and his team pulled one back two minutes into the second half.
Ks failed to deal with Phil Masons corner and towering centre back Lee Harvey unleashed a powerful 25-yard drive that flew high past a full-stretch Key.
But Ks resumed their dominance and on the hour Ball had a drive blocked after Liam Collins had caught Nilton Fernandes in possession. Bashiru Alimi curled a chip over the bar from a Bolt corner, Bolt had a few wayward long range efforts while Ball saw a chip clawed away by Ward.
And in the 74th minute Ks made sure of all three points when Bolts perfectly struck through ball saw Green take off at some speed into the Wood box and fire low past a full-stretch Ward from an acute angle.
Ks kept up the pressure with Ball driving wide after being set up by Green and Ball having a drive blocked from another Bolt corner.
A fierce Bolt drive from the edge of the box was smothered by Ward on his line. And with two minutes to go Bolt took off down the middle of the park and got his drive in under pressure, which was palmed away by a full-stretch Ward.
