SKATERS are celebrating a campaign victory after a youth charity pledged £20,000 to improve facilities at a skate ramp park thanks to the News Shopper.
The campaigners, who range from professional stunt riders to kids as young as eight, contacted the News Shopper to complain at the lack of facilities in the borough.
They were tired of being criticised for using the street where they were seen as dangerous and a nuisance.
Alerted by the compaign, Youth Action 2000 came forward with the promise of improving existing facilities at Harvington Skate Park, in South Eden Park Road, Beckenham. It will open in March next year.
It is re-vamping the ramps, will buy insurance to allow children as young as eight to skate and will open the park until 9pm and open on Sundays.
The improved park will also serve as an information point for the other Youth Action 2000 projects which aim to get Bromley youngsters off the streets.
