MORE than half of electric blankets recently tested in Greenwich were classed as too dangerous to use.
The free testing service by Greenwich trading standards officers looked at 115 blankets.
Sixteen blankets needed minor repairs, including replacement plugs and fuses but 61 failed completely.
Anyone whose blanket failed the tests was given a voucher to cover half the cost of a new one.
And failed blankets will be recycled by animal charities for use as pet bedding.
Due to the overwhelming success of the testing, trading standards is hoping to arrange future events.
