A PUPIL from a special school in Gravesend has won a peace poster contest.
Nine-year-old Matthew Wright beat 26 other youngsters from Ifield Special School, Cedar Avenue, with a poster depicting a peace handshake. He received gift vouchers and a certificate of achievement.
The competition, which was sponsored by Northfleet, Swanscombe and Greenhithe Lions Club, was judged by a panel of six judges and is part of the 14th Lions International Peace Poster Contest.
Matthew's poster will now enter a south east England contest. One grand winner will receive a cash prize and an all-expenses paid trip to New York.
Northfleet, Swanscombe and Greennhithe Lions Club president Mike Parker said: "I was so impressed by the amount of effort exhibited by the pupils. It is obvious these young people have strong ideas of what peace means to them."
