MANY people find Christmas an emotionally testing time of the year so the Samaritans are reminding everybody that they are only a phone call away.
Stuart Gardiner, deputy director of the local branch, said: "Many people find this time of year very difficult for a variety of reasons.
"These range from loneliness, financial pressures and social obligations to memories that are difficult to deal with.
"Short dark days and long nights can add to these and other problems. Surprisingly, all groups in our community are affected by one or more of the above.
"Amid the festivities, it can be difficult to express your true feelings for fear of spoiling Christmas."
He said that the Samaritans could help, day or night, however big or small your concerns. Call 08457 909 090.
In addition, the Waltham Forest branch at 663 Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, will be open to visitors on Christmas Day from 8am to 8pm, but it is advisable to call 8520 9191 first to make sure that a volunteer is available.
