There are a considerable number of old and infirm people living alone in the Borough of Bromley, many in very sad conditions, who rely on a 'Meals on Wheels' service, provided by voluntary drivers for a midday meal, every day of the year, including weekends and even Christmas Day, for which they pay a modest price.
Strangely, there is great difficulty in re-cruiting volunteers in the Orpington area, unlike other parts of the Borough, for weekends that are the responsibility of Age Concern. Volun-teers normally do only one delivery per month, a Saturday or a Sunday, and the av-erage round takes about one hour and a half. We have been doing this ourselves for about the last 10 years and can assure you just how much the service is appre-ciated, and how re-warding it is to ourselves.
