With regard to the EU Regional Assembly Offices being set up here and in Brussls. There seems to be a conspiracy of silence and secrecy in the Bromley Borough Council regarding this issue. I have for about 12 weeks sent letters to the council leader and chief executive asking for informa-tion regarding:
1. proportion of salaries and expenses claimed by both officers and members attending shadow regional assembly meetings.
2. Appropriation for the Euro, with a list of meetings attended by officers or members of your authority in anyway connected with Euro prepa-ration.
Seven questions in all. Mr M Tickner and Mr D Bartlett have ignored my letters, although I am told my letter was passed to the Head of Commu-nity Renewal on November 1 for answering.
My last letters pointed out that if no reply forthcoming, I would feel it my duty to inform the people of Bromley, that we must presume this infor-mation requested is sensitive and to be kept secret under EU/Westminster Directives. No replies received to date.
One wonders if this is another of the benefits of EU membership the government keeps telling us we have!
