ONE of the most successful exhibitions at the National Maritime Museum received a special visit from the King of Norway.

Accompanied by HRH the Duke of York, who is a trustee of the museum, King Harald of Norway toured South: The Race To The Pole.

This is the world's first exhibition to tell the stories of Captain Scott, Sir Ernest Shackleton and Roald Amundsen who beat Scott to the South Pole by 33 days, claiming it for Norway.

During the visit they examined the leather boots worn by Amundsen and the overshoes and snow goggles used by Scott, on their respective expeditions to the South Pole in 1911.

The exhibition will be running at the museum until January 31, 2002.
