To sacrifice an idyllic cricket pitch and an avenue of mature and ancient oaks to the corporate altar is criminal. It's scarcely surprising, considering bombastic projects like the Tally Ho Arts Centre, that Alan Williams is backing the new stadium against local opposition. Fortunately, Mr Williams is not putting the borough's money where his mouth is.
Sadly, he appears only too happy to consider sacrificing Barnet's precious Green Belt to this exercise in corporate excess.
Why can't the Bees enlarge their present stadium to satisfy the Taylor report recommendations; and stop this collision course to bankruptcy? Surely no-one would want to hand the Green Belt to property developers?
