Described as a comedy romance, Meat And Two Veg is making a welcome return to Battersea Arts Centre (BAC), writes Gareth
Foreman.
Staged by Cartoon De Salvo (pictured), the tale is loosely based on Shakespeares Twelfth Night, yet the heroes of the piece do not find themselves marooned on an island but in post World War Two Britain in the middle of an awful amount of confusion.
A couple devote themselves to the memory of their son, who is missing at sea, but their suburban peace is shattered by the advent of rock n roll.
So what is that curiously manly girl doing in her long lost brothers clothes? Why is a live skiffle band a-sailing the high seas? And who exactly has been putting the bop in the bop-shu-wop-shu-wop?
Cartoon De Salvo return to tell a strange and delightful tale which transports your imagination to a world where cross dressing and mistaken identity prove a confusing path to love.
Directed by Alex Murdoch, the show opens on December 11 and runs to January 6 with a break over the Christmas week.
It is the perfect alternative to pantomime and on selected dates there will be a skiffle band playing in the centres Hive Caf.
