I was one of the privileged few to see a production of The Magic Flute at Old Palace School. The play was performed to a select audience on four nights during November writes Linda Kirby.
The director of the show, James Edwards, created a show of exceptional quality.
The Old Palace School has talented girls that made the show a night to remember. I have never known a school tackle opera but if The Magic Flute is anything to go by more schools should rise to the challenge.
James managed to preserve the music, the hierarchy of the characters and the general concept of the opera although he adapted the production to suit a school play.
Many people stood out as very talented with voices that could offer a future in the world of entertaining.
Hannah Ladbury and Janette Cattell were both on top form, Eleanor Higgins with the voice of an angel, but for me the night went to Rowena Skinner who played Sarastro, The Godfather. She has excellent stage presence, a good voice and great acting ability, she is a natural born entertainer.
The orchestra were excellent. All round the evening was a great success. Well done Old Palace School.
