Commuters' festive celebrations could grind to a halt if South West Trains (SWT) staff vote in favour of strike action over Christmas.
SWT employees started voting earlier this week on whether to stage a series of strikes over pay and conditions.
The Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) has rejected two pay deals offered to staff even though two other unions accepted the proposals.
Ballot papers were distributed last week and the first strike could begin on Christmas Eve if members vote in favour.
The results of the ballot are expected on December 17.
