Luton Town Football Club boss and former Tottenham Hotspur star Joe Kinnear lit up Mill Hill Broadway on Monday when he officially switched on the traders' Christmas lights.
Mr Kinnear, 52, who lives in Mill Hill, said he was delighted to support businesses in the area. "I am regularly seen in the morning walking up and down Mill Hill Village and up and down the hills around Mill Hill School," said Mr Kinnear, who suffered a heart attack as Wimbledon manager nearly two years ago.
Traders who paid £1,000 towards the modest set of lights which cost £4,500 are hoping to add some more colour to them next year. The rest of the money came from Barnet Council.
Richard Evans, chairman of the Mill Hill Traders' Association, said: "It is important for the shops to do what they can to brighten up the area and it is kind of Joe Kinnear to spend his time supporting our event."
