PENSIONERS in Lewisham are not taking advantage of their free flu jab, say health chiefs.
Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham Health Authority says it is concerned because more than 60 per cent of people over 65 have not had their free injection this winter.
Dr Rachel Heathcock is co-ordinating a campaign to encourage more over-65s to get the free jab.
She said: "We cannot stress the importance enough of being immunised against flu.
"Older people are especially vulnerable to flu, which in turn can lead to other complications and possible hospitalisation. This risk can be significantly reduced by having the vaccine."
She added: "We are aiming to vaccinate more than 65 per cent of this age group, so doctors have written to patients to tell them the vaccine is available and we have also distributed publicity material across the three boroughs to encourage take-up.
"Our message is it's not too late to go and get your flu jab which is available until the end of December. Don't let it go to waste."
