Old Loughtonians2
Teddington2
(EHL National League)THIS game was always going to end in a draw as both Old Loughts and Teddington were evenly matched throughout an entertaining encounter at Luxborough Lane last Sunday.
As always, Old Loughts started well, creating chance after chance but again were unable to score.
In the 15th minute, they were awarded a penalty stroke which was taken by Nick Thompson, the OL's player/coach and leading goal scorer, but his shot was well saved by the Teddington goalkeeper.
In the 33rd minute, Teddington took the lead when James Mulcair scored from a penalty corner.
The Essex boys replied straight away with Ollie Davies sweeping the ball home from a yard out. Teddington then packed their midfield and defence, trying to soak up the pressure from Loughts, but soon hit back on the break, forcing keeper Harris into some saves.
This continued until the 43rd minute when a shot from Mulcair was deflected by a defender's stick and passed Harris.
In reply, Old Loughts increased the tempo, with Owen Griffiths-Jones scoring in the 65th minute with a cracking shot into the bottom left hand corner.
It was thanks to Harris that the score stayed at 2-2 as he had an answer to everything Teddington threw at him in the last minutes of the match.
The Old Loughts ladies suffered a disappointing 3-0 loss at the hands of Loughborough.
