The Government is considering a fresh planning application to build an 85 bed medium secure unit in Cane Hill despite Coulsdon residents attempts to oppose similar plans in the past.
Richard Ottaway MP for Croydon South has written to Alan Milburn, Secretary for Health, saying: "The principles remain exactly the same. The green belt is not to be tampered with and building a unit of this type next to three primary schools does not make sense.
"It will incense parents and residents alike and I urge the Government to abandon this plan."
He added: "It is not a good site to build such a unit as there are less than three primary schools located in the near vicinity.
"Secondly the site is in the green belt and to build on it would be in breach of the green belt regulations."
