An investigation has been launched into the crash which killed Donna last Thursday.
Donna, who lived in Wickham Way, Beckenham, is believed to have suffered major head injuries and a cardiac arrest shortly before being pronounced dead at the scene of the accident in Roman Way.
Her Fiat Bravo was turning out of Rectory Grove at 9.48am when the fire engine, with lights flashing and sirens blaring, collided with the vehicle.
Four Croydon fire fighters were treated for shock at St Helier Hospital and were still on sick leave as the Croydon Guardian went to press.
A police investigation has been launched, and London Fire Brigade will conduct its own investigation.
Sergeant Alan Adams, of Catford Traffic Police, is leading the investigation which is expected to take three months.
He said: "This is a tragic incident, especially at this time of year, coming up to Christmas.
"Our thoughts go out to Miss Stepney's family and to the firemen, who were badly shocked."
Union representative for the Fire Brigade, Dave Thomas, speaking from Croydon fire station, said: "We are all deeply upset over this tragedy."
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to call 020 8284 5988.
