I REFER to We Deserve Answers on Church Now (Independent Letters October 12, 2001).
Apparently a revised planning application has been made regarding the proposed annexe at St Michael's, Wood Green.
Using the annexe for the exclusive use of special needs children is no longer the case. Other uses have been added. Changes have also been made to the site layout.
Apparently Wood Green Parochial Church Council is unaware of the revised application, as are parties who were previously consulted by Haringey planners.
In view of the large number of objectors and objections to the original planning application parties should be sent revised proposals for their comments. Representation to councillors should also be allowed.
The Bishop of London the Right Rev Richard Chartres is wrongly attempting to close correspondence and avoid public scrutiny on St Gabriel's.
St Michael's annexe should not be substituted for St Gabriel's Bounds Green and the Church of the Good Shepherd.
Pastoral care of the 40,000 people of the parish is vital. Every project should be independent and self-funded.
Together we can succeed. Neither 'walking away' nor resignation is the answer. St Gabriel's should not be allowed to disappear from Bounds Green and district.
JOHN WALLER,
Friends of St Gabriel's,
Bounds Green.
