(Essex Intermediate League Division One)THE SWIFTS were held by top-division newcomers Wanstead in the first of their two scheduled visits to East London in December, the other being to Canning Town on December 22.
For Saturday's game Swifts enjoyed long periods of territorial advantage without turning it to tangible reward, and for the last 25 minutes they laid siege to the home side's goal without making the vital breakthrough.
The first half remained goalless, despite the Swifts being awarded a penalty on the half hour mark when Glen Jackman was brought down in the area when bearing down on goal.
Ryland Mynott took the spot kick but saw the home keeper save his shot.
After 55 minutes a Swifts goal finally arrived, and it came straight from the top drawer.
Giles Parnwell, fresh from his success playing for the league's representative side in mid-week, sent over a near-post corner which was met by Christoph Gombert who fired in a fierce left-foot volley for his first league goal for the Swifts.
The lead was short lived as on the hour mark, Tony Driscoll gave his side a share of the points and a 1-1 final scoreline.
