Marooned Millennium paddler Alexander Bance has resorted to some nifty DIY to gain access to the Thames.
Fed-up with waiting for Kingston Council to act, the 75-year-old canoeist repaired the slipway himself using four bags of cement and paving stones, spending just £20.
As reported in the Surrey Comet in October, confusion over the ownership of the dock row off Portsmouth Road, Surbiton, has left the road surface completely worn away in places.
Unable to reach the river in Surbiton, Mr Bance, who took up canoeing 10 years ago, faced a 40-minute journey to the Ealing Canoe Club to practice his sport.
The patchwork is a temporary solution but there is still no guarantee the dock row will be repaired anytime soon.
Officially the slipway, called
a dock row, has no owner and this has caused some confusion
over who is responsible for its
upkeep.
