Library users in Wandsworth will soon have free high-speed access to the internet thanks to more than £290,000 from the New Opportunities Fund.
The Lottery funding will allow the council to fulfil its pledge to make the internet and email free for all library users.
A total of 74 extra terminals will be installed in the borough's 12 libraries by 2003.
Each library will be equipped with at least one workstation designed for people with special needs.
Children's workstations will also be provided and all terminals will be linked to the London Grid for Learning, allowing young people access to personal learning accounts and to complete their homework at the library.
Cabinet member for environmental and public services, Councillor Guy Senior, said: "This is great news for everyone young and old who wants to be part of the information age. The biggest change will be the speed of the network.
"Whether you are looking for information, sending an email or doing some internet shopping, you will find this quicker in the future."
