The new Sainsburys development in Richmond Road, Kingston, will open for business on Tuesday.
The supermarkets official opening will be made by the deputy mayor, Councillor Steve Mama, who will also collect a cheque for £500 on behalf of the Mayors charities.
As well as being home to the supermarket giants latest store, the former British Gas site will include a health club and 155 new flats.
Residents were opposed to the controversial development because they believed traffic demands were already too great.
However, a new East-West link road has been built which will hopefully take the pressure off the Skerne Road area of North Kingston.
Russell Walker, manager of the new store, said: Weve had a busy few weeks putting the finishing touches to the store but Im delighted to be able to say that everything is complete and the store looks fantastic.
