BEXLEY: Our story of slimming cat sets fur flying among moggies
SHOULD it rain cats and dogs, the pet-lovers of Bexley had better take cover if these monstrous moggies are anything to go by.
Ever since the News Shopper told the story of Purrseus, the slimming ginger tom, fur has been flying in the race to find Bexley's fattest feline.
We came across some colossal cats but Georgie, the bog-standard moggy from Bexleyheath, must take the prize, weighing in at a whopping 2st or 14 bags of sugar.
Owner Bernice Beddoes, of Herbert Road, says six-year-old Georgie's favourite pastime is bird-watching because he is too slow to chase them. Maintaining she does not spoil her pet, who has to be weighed on scales usually used for dogs at the vets, Mrs Beddoes, 62, added: "Actually he is a very fussy eater.
"Him and his brother, Monty, turn their noses up at a lot of the food I put down but if Monty leaves anything, Georgie often finishes it for him. He is a bit of a plodder and likes the quiet life, on an armchair or by the fire."
Another prominent puss could be found prowling the streets of Sidcup if she could make it out of her favourite chair.
Bonnie, who lives with 59-year-old Patricia Redmond, is so lazy she needs a step ladder to reach the comfort of the cushions.
Mrs Redmond, of Valliers Wood Road, who rescued 1st 2lb Bonnie four years ago, said: "She doesn't eat anything out of the ordinary, except maybe a lick of ice cream. I'm not sure how old she is, I think she's about 11 so she is getting on in years but I have given her a life of luxury."
These moggies have some munching to do to beat the world record held by Himmy, of Queensland, Australia, who weighed 3st 5lb.
