SOUTH-east London has one of the worst mail delivery services in the country.

The area is the worst in London and fifth worst in the country. First-class post is delivered the next day only 84.9 per cent of the time. The target is 92.1 per cent.

Releasing details for the 121 postcode areas in Britain for July to September, Consignia, the company responsible for delivering mail, says it has improved overall but has identified some "black-spots".

Mail services group managing director Jerry Cope says "urgent action" will be taken. This includes a task force to look at standards in collections and sorting.
