Sutton is among an increasing number of councils encouraging parents to use washable nappies.
Council environment experts say using washable nappies can save up to £600 per child each year and are hoping this will draw people into a scheme which aims to reduce the amount of waste dumped in landfill sites.
The washable nappy comes with flushable biodegradable liners, which means only the outer cotton liner needs to be washed.
Two nappy laundering services operate in the Sutton area and, on average, cost £10 a week - still probably cheaper than buying disposable ones. Call Eezy Peezy on 01959 534207 or Cotton Bottoms on 0121 693 949.
