POLICE and council officers joined forces to launch a campaign to stop drinking and driving in the borough this Christmas.
Road safety units and police will be making random stops and breathalising speeding drivers to crack down on anyone breaking the law.
Latest figures indicate one in seven people killed in road accidents are over the legal alcohol limit.
Chief Inspector Tim Carter of Catford Traffic Unit said: "Some people believe a couple of drinks will not affect their driving but it does."
Road Safety Unit chief John Walton added drivers also need to be careful of drunk pedestrians swaying into the road.
