WHEN it comes to celebrating a birthday, Dartford's Minnie Vaux knows how to have a good time.

Minnie, who was 100 on December 6, had two birthday parties in the last week.

The first was at Fleetdown Community centre where the Happy Hearts over-60s club held a surprise party for its oldest member. Minnie has been an active member of the club for more than 20 years. She enjoyed champagne, wine, a birthday cake and flowers as well as birthday wishes from Dartford's Mayor Cllr Tom Maddison. She also joined in the music.

Minnie was born in Southwark in 1901 and married her husband Cecil in 1923. She worked in the British Telecom canteen at London Bridge until she was 74, travelling into London every day from Dartford.

She and her husband moved to a bungalow in Blackfen in 1960, but her husband died afterwards aged 56.

She later she moved to her home in Dartford to be near her son Jim.
