THOUSANDS of pounds has been doled out to local organisations in the latest round of lottery awards.
Harrow Cricket Club, The Sangat Advice Centre and Stanmore Air Training Corps were allocated a total of £12,000 by Awards for All, London.
The cricket club announced that it will spend it £5,000 to repair and improve practice nets while Stanmore ATC is putting the £2,000 it has received to set up a squadron website. Organisers also plan to buy more materials and equipment to help develop its programme of activities.
Another £5,000 will be handed over to the Sangat Advice Centre in Sancroft Road, Harrow, which offers advice and support to the Asian community.
Anila Shah, one of the trustees for the centre which started building a replacement for its derelict premises two weeks ago, welcomed the money.
"We are very pleased to have been successful in our bid. It will pay towards dance classes, including modern Indian dance, and drama workshops for children," she said.
Awards for All England was established in 1999 and since then more than £14million have been given to London organisations. It is a joint programme which awards grants on behalf of the Arts Council of England, Community Fund, New Opportunities Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund and Sport England.
Meanwhile, the Harrow Community Trust has distributed £2,250 to three deserving local causes.
St Bernadette's First and Middle School in Clifton Road, Harrow was granted £250 for a proposed adventure trail for pupils.
Harrow High School which is striving towards 'Special Sports Status' from the Department of Education, has been awarded £500 towards the funds to achieve this ambitious scheme.
Another £1,500 went to Reachout, an Edgware-based charity which runs a 24-hour helpline for adults who have been abused in childhood.
