Four proud juniors stepped forward to pick up their black belts at the end of an exceptional year for martial arts in Sutton.

The youngsters aged between 10 to 14 have spent more than five years each striving towards the ultimate in martial arts.

Delighted Sid Lockless, who runs Sutton Martial Arts Club said, "The children have had to develop physically and mentally."

Proving this year's successes to be out of the ordinary, he added: "Of every 500 students, about one will get their black belt. I cannot remember ever getting four students through together." For more on the club, call 020 8287 3262.
