So, we're not a borough of boozers then.
First, many residents have welcomed the council's proposals for a ban on street drinking in certain areas.
Now we have a concerted campaign by Palmers Green residents to prevent the area becoming a drinkers paradise by opposing plans for a new pub.
The government is to licensing laws to allow later and more liberal drinking patterns but it is clear that Enfield people would rather it was confined to busy city centres rather than the residential outposts.
It appears the majority publicans of Enfield have also turned down an opportunity to open for a 36-hour period over New Year.
Lager louts are the scourge of modern society and sensible drinking has to be encouraged.
The police have their hands full as it is, without having another pub to keep an eye on at closing time.
Perhaps pub and restaurant chains would serve the community better if they brought a 'night economy' to areas in the borough which have become ghost towns at night.
