Jews from several synagogues celebrated Chanukah by lighting the first candle of the Chanukiah on Sunday last week. Each synagogue will return to light another flame on the nine-candle Menorah outside Pinner Police Station in Waxwell Lane until the final day of Chanukah this Sunday. The holiday commemorates a flask of oil that burned for eight days instead of one when the Temple was rededicated following the victory of the Maccabees in 165 BC.
