Old Loughtonians4THE trip to Canterbury for Old Loughts last Sunday proved a difficult test for the Essex boys who could only manage a draw in the high scoring game.
Player coach Nick Thompson knows that this was a wasted two points against a side he would have wanted to beat and put the draw down to a lot of missed chances and too many errors in defence to give Canterbury corners.
Canterbury opened the scoring early, but with goals from Steve Carter and Ollie Davis, Old Loughts regained the upper hand for the majority of the half, until the last short corner before the break when Canterbury levelled.
Two minutes into the second half, Canterbury went ahead and it was up to Thompson to regain the lead with two goals from open play.
However, the win was not to be and eight minutes before time Canterbury once again grabbed the equaliser from a short corner.
With two more matches before the break, the Old Loughts will be working hard this weekend to ensure three points in their home tie against floundering local rivals Southgate.
The Old Loughts ladies came up against Clifton in the EHA Cup third round where they took a quick 2-0 lead thanks to two penetrating runs by Wright.
Clifton pulled one back before half time and equalised midway through the second half.
The game was decided in extra time when Clifton scored a golden goal after two minutes when England international Imogen Robertson scored from a penalty corner.
