FOR some months now I have been trying to get Enfield Council to take positive action regarding the cleaning of Weir Hall Avenue and the adjoining roads.
I believe that we have been very patient, but my fellow residents and I have now reached the end of our tether. The council has not taken any noticeable action and the situation has in fact, worsened. More and more rubbish has accumulated and what were once streets to be proud of are now something akin to a war zone.
A couple of weeks ago I saw three council workmen in the road. One had a broom, which he slowly pushed along the ground (missing most of the litter) while his two colleagues followed on behind in slow motion pushing a plastic bin on wheels. I am 73 years old and I could have pushed that bin single handed and a lost faster.
That, I am afraid, is the sum total of the council's efforts. Is it any wonder that the borough of Enfield has deteriorated so much since the Labour council came to power? We are faced with piles of rotting rubbish, some of which actually adjoins a primary school playing field. MP Andy Love, seems to revel in the spin, but actually gets nothing put in the bin. Who on earth can we turn to?
MRS JOYCE WILLIAMS,
Weir Hall Avenue,
Edmonton.
