ENFIELD extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to five matches last weekend, as they dispatched Heybridge Swifts in this bottom-of-the-table encounter.o
Enfield started the stronger side and went ahead in the fifth minute as James Ayres rose above a static Heybridge defence to head past the stranded Kingsley Banks in the Heybridge goal.o
It should have been the catalyst the E's needed but instead it inspired Heybridge and on 14 minutes the visitors drew level as ex-Enfield player Dominic Gentle's header beat the outstretched arms of Enfield keeper Ricky Millard.
A few moments later George Gregoriou thought that he had restored Enfield's lead but the referee Mr P Vosper had already blown for an infringement. It was a decision that could have proved costly as in the 22nd minute Kevin Budge finished off a sweet move to put the visitors ahead - a lead which they held until half time.
At the start of the second period it was all Enfield and they were duly rewarded after just ten minutes of play when Gregoriou converted a penalty after Allen had been unceremoniously upended in the 18-yard box.
Other than a few Heybridge half-chances which did not cause the E's defence too much distress, it was all Enfield and it came as no surprise when they increased their lead on 70 minutes.
Soteriou made another strong run down the wing and found Georgiou with a pin-point cross and the E's forward put the ball past Banks with some aplomb.
Immediately after the restart, Gentle was given his marching orders for a reckless challenge but, despite being at a numerical disadvantage, Heybridge seemed to step up a gear as they looked for another equaliser.
However, it was not to be and Enfield grabbed a fourth goal with just two minutes remaining from debutant Malik Sesay.Millard, Hoy (sub: Sesay), Soteriou, Gyoury, Peddie, Ayres, Rufus, Allen (Reddington), Gregoriou (Fenton), Georgiou, Walker.
