The Worcester Park Club will be rocking this Sunday when Johnny Spence's band The Pirates take centre stage, writes Dean Piper.

Famous in the early 60s, the band jammed with UK rocker Johnny Kidd (Shakin' All Over and I'll Never Get Over You).

Spence was recently featured talking about his time with Kidd on BBC1s documentary series, Juke Box Heros.

After Kidd's untimely death in a car crash, the original band members went on to enjoy a highly successful renaissance as a solo act in the late 70s and 80s.

The band began making waves again in 1999 with a number of sell-out tours after a 16 year break.

All three band-members have roots that stem from the local area, including drummer Frank Farley who lived in Worcester Park for many years.

Johnny Spence, who is said to be thrilled to be playing locally again, said: "All three of us have such strong associations with the area, not just as residents, as we also played many local venues."

The Pirates play the Worcester Park Club in Malden Road, Worcester Park on December 9.

Doors open at 8pm and tickets cost £10.
