Thank you for publishing the school performance league tables for 2000/2001 they provide a useful comparison with the carefully scripted comments of the Croydon Council..
Croydon's national position is heavily influenced by the 10 independent and church schools at the top of its GCSE and A level list, and the achievements of some other schools are modest, if praiseworthy in the light of their problems. The audit commission uses quite different indicators in its overall assessment of Croydon's performance and its report for 2000/2001 suggested that Croydon was doing reasonably well in its provision for children with special needs, although the number of junior classes of more than 30 pupils was high at 18.9 per cent.
