The voices of pupils from two Croydon schools could help cartoon favourites The Lampies reach the Christmas No 1 music chart spot this year.

Sixty children from St Davids school and West Dene school sang their hearts out at a recording session in Sony studios on October 5 .

Their song Light Up The World For Christmas was released on Monday, December 10 and William Hill has odds of 16-1 for the number one spot.

The pupils feature in the music video and were seen last Sunday at 7.30am on CBBC 2's popular cartoon series The Lampies.

Songwriter, Mike Connaris said: "I got a call from the record company asking if they would be on standby to perform and that includes Top Of The Pops."

Mr Connaris, whose son Louie attends St Davids whilst his son Jake attends West Dene added: "Woolworths have taken the CD which is good news because the store accounts for 40 per cent of chart sales."

The Croydon pupils will be competing with the voices of Robbie and Nicole, Westlife and arch rivals The Tweenies in their bid for the number one spot.
