THE family of Roger Sylvester remain angry at the legal system over their quest for justice.o

Despite St Pancras Coroners Court promising an inquest into Mr Sylvester's death, the family are being frustrated in their attempts to prepare for the March hearing.

Bernard Renwick said on behalf of the Roger Sylvester Justice Campaign: "Justice delayed is justice denied. This is the longest delay between an inquest being adjourned and restarting into a custody death. It is almost three long years since Roger died, we as a family have been denied justice."

Mr Sylvester, 30, died in January 1999 after being restrained by eight police officers near his home in Summerhill Road, Tottenham.

The family's solicitors have written to the coroner asking for the disclosure of police documents prior to the inquest.

They are requesting pre-inquest disclosure, full disclosure and ample time to digest the volumes of an Essex Police report into the death before the inquest commences.

So far, the family say the coroner's office has not been helpful andthey have been awaiting a date for disclosures since May.

Tottenham MP David Lammy has attempted to speed up the process by writing to the Parliamentary Ombudsman complaining about the delay and the failure to appoint a coroner.
