Pet dogs are being stolen from parks, shops and even parked cars according to Croydon's dog warden, Tony Keane, writes Angeline

Albert.

Mr Keane said: "There has been a 40 per cent increase in the number of stolen pet cases over the last two years."

"If you're walking your dog in the park keep to open spaces, keep them in sight and don't let them off the lead unless you're sure you can retrieve them.

"Don't take your dog to stores and tie them up outside unless you have someone who can stay with the dog."

He added: "Identity chips last a lifetime and can cost as little as £15, if owners bring their dogs to FOAL Farm in Biggin Hill.

"Dogs can be scanned by vets or a dog warden, chips are the best proof of ownership."

The owners of a five year-old dog with a weak heart are desperate to see her safe return before Christmas.

Molly, who also suffers from a hernia, goes everywhere with owner Patrick Bresnihan but hasn't been seen since she was stolen whilst her owner was shopping. The brown and white Shih Tzu was stolen from her owner's locked white Nissan van whilst it was parked in Croydon's Ikea car park, between 8.10-8.58pm on Wednesday, November 28. Molly's owners are offering a reward for her safe return. Witnesses can call: 07767 678198
