The courage and good nature of a 12-year-old Garratt Park School pupil has earned him a Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Award.
Balham boy Rishi Jaitoo suffers from speech and learning difficulties, has limited use of his right hand and also has balance problems.
He was nominated by staff for the bravery he has shown in overcoming his problems and making an outstanding contribution to school life.
Garratt deputy head Irene Parks praised Rishi's character: "He has to live with all these problems and is a very kind and good-natured boy.
"Rishi is very helpful to his peers and staff and is a great ambassador for the school."
Rishi said he was "surprised and very pleased" to receive the award.
A presentation ceremony takes place for Rishi on December 21 at the school in Waldron Road.
The awards were set up in 2000 to recognise the achievements of secondary school pupils and each year schools are invited to nominate students.
