The deputy mayor of Kingston Councillor Steve Mama, has made an appeal to local individuals and businesses to make contributions to the Canbury Music Awards annual series of grants.
Since its inception in 1997, more than £8,000 has been distributed to 23 local groups, mostly comprising of young musicians.
The award winners this year included the Kingston Chamber Singers, who used their grant to commission a choral fanfare, and the Surbiton Royal British Legion Youth Marching Band, which received a new clarinet.
A collection at the event on Thursday, November 29, got the fundraising efforts underway but more support is urgently needed. If you are interested in supporting the initiative, call Michael Davison on 020 8546 0230.
