Now that New Labour MP Tessa Jowell has given her blind approval to the Lab/Lib Tower project at Tally Ho, can we clear up some facts? (Showtime at arts centre', Times Group, December 13).
It will stand 18 storeys high; 14 floors of 'luxury' flats in a block on top of four floors containing the interesting bits, and will be visible from most of the borough.
Though who in their right mind would want a penthouse under countless radiating mobile phone masts and microwave dishes is beyond me.
Most of the present electronic equipment atop the tall building at 707 High Road, especially the biggest dish, will be redundant and moved to 'grace' the roof of the 'Williams Tower' as it rises from the ashes of the Tally Ho market. After months of disgraceful deceit, hidden and spiralling costs and now two years of congestion, dust and disruption, we'll end up with a crippling ongoing debt and total mistrust in the democracy of local council.
