THOUSANDS of bright readers were given a pair of free energy efficient light bulbs thanks to the News Shopper, Bromley Council and London Electricity.

The give-away of 3,000 bulbs marked the launch of the year-long Greener Bromley Campaign.

The News Shopper and Bromley Council are working together to show we are the greenest newspaper and borough in south east London.

During the campaign, we will highlight ways to make your home greener while saving cash by holding give-aways and running competitions.

Bromley mayor Councillor John Holbrooke and more than 1,500 News Shopper readers descended on Petts Wood last Wednesday to find out more about energy efficiency in the home and collect their free bulbs.

Cllr Holbrooke said: "I am pleased to be working with the News Shopper to promote energy conservation awareness throughout Bromley."

Orpington resident Stan Hollands, of Tillfarn Road, said: "It's good to find out more about how we can cut our bills while protecting the environment at the same time."

News Shopper editor Andrew Parkes agreed the event was a success.

He said: "If we can make more people in Bromley understand how important it is to save energy, then we can make a brighter future for our children." For more information, call Bromley's energy advice hotline on 020 8313 4560.
