Dog patrols have been introduced in the borough's parks in a bid to combat vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

Council officers have identified 'key risk' parks including Stoneyfields in Edgware for extra security. But Councillor Susette Palmer urged patience from members at last week's policy conference meeting.

"If I could just snap my fingers and stop it I would," she said.

"We are making headway and I'm getting the repair work done as quickly as possible but it does take time and we are running out of money."

Mrs Palmer also revealed the borough was looking at the possible use of infra-red security cameras in parks.

The play area in Stoneyfields Park is currently closed because it has been so badly damaged.

Victoria Park in Finchley is locked at night and a trial night-time closure is underway at the Old Courthouse Recreation Ground in High Barnet after complaints from residents.

Mrs Palmer refused to lock the gates at Stoneyfields.

"I am, however, keeping the situation under very close scrutiny and if I feel it necessary to take further steps I will do so," she added.
