Herne Hill Harriers lost to Dulwich in the Surrey Women's Cross Country League meet in Richmond Park at the weekend after Ceri Diss pulled out with flu and another athlete missed the start by half an hour.
Harriers (65) lost by a single point, their scorers being Polly Rogers-Dixon (second), Clare Pauzers (sixth), Emma Latto (seventh), Helen Tolcher (22nd) and Debbie Robinson (29th).
The men's league team was boosted by Irish international signing John Downes, but he was too late to score in the race even though he finished sixth.
Scorers were Mickie Boyle (11th), Ian Munt (12th), Dave Robinson (15th), Francis Marsh (18th), Keith Newton (21st), Alan Wray (23rd), Ben Wood (29th), Tony Harran (38th), Simon Coombes (41st) and Vic Maughn 48th.
The colts won their first league race for years thanks to scorers D Stone, S Ssendagi and M Sarpong.
